Project Engineer

AEON Engineering Ltd. are recruiting a multi-skilled Project Engineer. As part of this role, you will be joining the team in Cheshire, to assist in the design and management of ‘Big Science’ Projects. The ideal candidate is a confident and responsible engineer and manager, with three years (or more) experience, and is looking to work on large-scale scientific and engineering projects which adopt bleeding edge technologies.

The Project Engineer shall be a multi-disciplined engineer, and have a firm understanding of either Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering fields. The ideal candidate has an awareness of project management and commercial 3P practices. The Project Engineer shall:

  • Author and prepare engineering models, drawings and/or schematics
  • Author design documents
  • Perform Finite Element Modelling, as appropriate
  • Participate in engineering reviews, as part of internal sign-offs
  • Generate, monitor and manage engineering schedules
  • Report to the Technical Director on a diverse project portfolio
  • Act as the Risk Manager, identifying and mitigating technical and project risks, as appropriate
  • Author, and contribute to project bids
  • Identify work opportunities and leads
  • Liaise with clients for purpose of project progress reporting



  • Engineering Degree in a relevant field (Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering)
  • A minimum of 3 years relevant experience
  • Ability to read and understand CAD models, engineering drawings and schematics
  • Familiarity with modern manufacturing techniques
  • Awareness of PSSR 2000, and FAT/SAT methodologies
  • Aspiration to manage a small team of external contractors during commissioning phases
  • Ability to write successful bids, or is willing to learn
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to travel, and work around international time-zones (GMT ± 12h)
  • Corporate membership, or eligibility for membership of, recognised engineering institutes
  • Ability to work well under stress to meet deadlines
  • Able to work across markets within a small and dynamic engineering consultancy


  • Knowledge of industrial machinery, machine learning, RF communication systems, FPGAs and/or HV Power systems
  • Experience in either aerospace, defence or energy markets
  • A track record in successful design, including previous roles within medium to large, technically complex projects.
  • Experience in compliance management, design specification formalisation, cost and performance modelling
  • Experience working under sub-optimum conditions
